What Is the DUTCH Complete Hormone Test?

The DUTCH Complete hormone test is a full, one-day hormone test that includes: 

• Estrogen (neither men nor women want too much!)
• Estrogen metabolites (how you break down and detoxify estrogen)
• Testosterone (both men and women need to have enough)
• Progesterone (important for fertility and in perimenopause)
• DHEA (a sex hormone precursor)
• Cortisol (needed for energy, sometimes excess in stress)

What Does the DUTCH Test For?

• The health and output of your adrenal glands
• Your levels of testosterone, estrogen and progesterone 
• Levels of some nutrients such as B6, B12 and glutathione
• Estrogen metabolite ratios (relate to cancer risk)
• Methylation activity (marker of detoxification)
• Insight into neurotransmitters, nutritional status, toxicity, and oxidative stress

Location Restrictions
If you are in New York or Rhode Island, you will be required to submit the Release Form when you ship back your sample. If you are in Maryland, the test should be completed and sent from outside of the state (we can help you).

What Is the Timeframe?
Women: Please take this test about day 20 of your cycle if cycling, or anytime if not (but avoid completing the test if you are acutely ill). If you have just given birth, we recommend waiting till you're cycling again and then do it on the third cycle.

Men: You can take this test at any time of the month, but please avoid completing the test if you are acutely ill.

Results delivery: Once the lab receives the test, it processes in about 3 weeks. We will then contact you to make an appointment.

Women: What If I Don't Have a Cycle?
If you have a cycle, it's ideal to test during the middle of the luteal phase (around day 20). However, many of us don't have such predictable cycles, and the DUTCH can actually help point to the reasons why the cycle isn't ideal. Since it's measuring the hormone metabolites for sex and adrenal hormones, as well as many other things, it's great for helping to guide you to what the issue might be. If you cannot predict your cycle, take the test at any time (except when acutely ill).

What If I'm Currently Taking Hormones?
If you use hormone replacement, you have two options:

1. Discontinue hormones 1 week prior to the test (preferred, but not required)
2. Continue hormone replacement and see how your body is responding to your current treatment

Do You Take Insurance?
We are health coaches and cannot bill insurance or provide you with specific documents to submit to your insurance. (We do provide you with a transaction receipt, but these receipts are not recognized by many insurance companies.) However, if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) credit card, you may be able to purchase this service on that card if coaching and testing are allowed. If you have trouble getting your HSA card to work on our site, we can send a PayPal bill instead.

Can We Review Other Labs at the Same Time as This One?
We do not review any past labs unless you have purchased the same lab from Functional Detox Products in the past (i.e., it's a retest). If you would like us to review other labs, we are happy to do that. That is included in a Past Labs Review, and you have the choice to review 1-3 or 4-6 labs. Please make that purchase at the link above, and you will receive an email letting you know how to upload those documents and schedule that appointment.

If you are not interested in that option but want to see how these new results compare to results from a past lab with another practitioner, that will be easy to do if it's the same lab testing company. You will easily be able to compare a past DUTCH with a new DUTCH, for example, to see what's changed. Your coach will interpret your current results and give you a plan that fits your current situation. You are welcome to verbally share with your coach, "my cortisol has come way down since my last test," but ultimately it doesn't affect your current plan.
